not sure if it works the same on this species.. but other species from different regions carry the characteristic traits of the species but have different forms( color is the first that comes to mind) .
With P. Altum this is often attributed to water characteristics as well as food. these contribute to the color form variations of the species.
Yes, for I know there is a blue and a purple color morph, so I'm wondering wich is wich cos I could have both of them Araguaiae and Marajo. I'd prefer to have the purple ones.
From what I understand, the purple morph isn't really purple but has red spotting through the latter half of the body. My blue morph ones did look lavender over black sand.
My information indicates that the purple morph is from the middle/upper Rio Araguaia, which isn't collected very often. The blue morph is found in the lower reaches of southern tributaries of the Amazon below the Rio Tapajos and on the Isla de Marajo. That being said, there is no definitive data on the distribution of the different color morphs.
