First Apisto cacatuoides?

First Apistogramma...just picked up as a breeding pair. Believe its a triple red, thoughts?

Yes, it looks like a Triple Red, however it might very well be the Double Red and I think the differences are in the fin colorations, but I would lean more to the Triple Red.

Simple: red/black pattern on dorsal & caudal - double red; red/black pattern on dorsal, caudal & anal - triple red.

So is it a quadruple red if you have red and black on dorsal, anal, caudal and ventral?

... and if so, must this be on both ventral fins to count? I'll have to have a proper look at my male as haven't done so for a while!

So would you say this is a nice example? Paid $25 for the pair...actually first time i have ever bought or considered apisto's. But I was really impressed with these guys. The shop also had Apisto Shishita...very little for $12.00. Any thoughts on these?

If that is 25 pounds, it is a bit on the high side but they are beautiful Apisto's. No matter if they are a bred color variant, they are stunning.

$25 is considerably less than £25 I think (not sure on the current exchange rate). Think I paid about £10 each for mine.

Non the less, the most important thing is if you think it's worth it paying it... and I think you have a nice male.
