I just had my pair of cactuoides spawn
they did this in a community tank and I really want to get some fry.
the only extra tank I have is a 5 gallon tank I am not using (not set up) so I was wondering if that would be enough for just the female and the spawning cave?? I would put in a sponge from one of my canister filters for biofiltration and a tetra easy crystal filter for mechanical. would this be sufficient? the tankmates in the community is a school of cardinals and 3 bristlenose plecos for example so I'm not overly confident in getting the fry to stay alive

You can try it. It has been done before, but requires much, much more effort to be successful. Water quality will change rapidly once you start to feed fry in such a small tank.
