Devastating update: noticed the male missing when I got home tonight. After looking with a light in the caves and seeing nothing I feared the worst, that he went carpet surfing but didn’t see anything. Unfortunately I checked again, I found him crispy behind the stand somehow landed perfectly on...
Yeah I saw her finally come out and when she went back in it was as tight a squeeze as I’m sure they like to make. She’s been out of the cave a little more today so we’ll see if they hatch this time. Will keep it posted.
Yeah the entrance is fully blocked but I just saw a little pile of sand poof out from inside I think I caught her at the very end of blocking it all up. Will get the BBS ready again
Update: just realized over the last 24 hours a new cave a half coconut had the entrance almost fully blocked with sand. Just caught the female pushing sand from inside the coconut floor to the outside. I see the male curiously swimming around this cave and taking a peek in but not entering. Im...
Ok wonderful information thank you will get on that, I’ve heard red light can be good to spot pests in reef tank at night so 2 birds 1 stone there. She still is probably young too. I bet I give them a couple tries and it’ll work out.
I did not move the cave I can see partially it’s on an angle to the front of the tank and haven’t shined a light inside in a few days. But I don’t see anything at the opening. Do females lose their bright coloration after a spawn if the fry aren’t viable/removed? Or if the male is still present...
No luck still, assuming the fry didn’t make it? She is still same breeding color but I don’t see any free swimmers. Defending the area around her cave still but going in the actual cave less and seems to be out in the open more often when I come to check. Will they try again soon?
Got it, I believe I first looked up something in Venezuela but regardless great information thank you. Lights just went out for the all fish so will hopefully see some new developments in the hongsloi tank tomorrow. Based on the timeline from everyone I should see free swimmers tomorrow or...
Ok I actually looked up the daylight cycle of places in South America to get an idea and had it at 8 hours with 2 hour sunrise and 2 hour sunset. I lowered it to what I said above when I exchanged the old smaller male for this new female about 3 weeks ago. I thought it may be a little too high...
