As mike said but only to add that I find that I get higher number of fry when I remove the cave with the eggs and hatch them artificially. Way more work tho then getting the mum to do the job.
Also I find that the fry that stay with mum have higher growth rates that hand reared ones...maybe to...
A $2 mini 3 inch tall plant pot from the local nursery seems to be the go to cave for my apistos. A jig saw is used to cut an opening and the pot is sat upside down.

Colony still going strong..onto the 4th generation now.Despite not segregating the fry, a few survive to continue on. The f1+ males are better coloured than the f0s, perhaps because of the adaptation to my tap water conditions...PH 7.2 Kh 6

I picked this one up from a lfs as a juvenile in a tank advertised as agasizii tefes. The others from the batch have grown out as agasizii except for this one. Thanks in advance.

Otherwise fantastic looking fish room..made good use of a small space. Are the tanks plumbed in for easy water changes or do you have to siphon each tank individually?
Mike is about absolutely right about getting their own tank if you want to get serious about breeding them
I have bred pebas in a community tank successfully (plecos and rainbows) but yields are low..like 2-5 surviving into juveniles.
About water parameters, I have found pebas to be very...
Never knew about this bug but thanks for the warning! Makes for an interesting read. Not sure about being perfectly harmless tho...don't fancy those larvae swimming in my guts.
The drone fly is reported to have caused accidental myiasis, which occurs when fly larvae inhabit a living host by...
One of the least aggressive Apisto I have kept is apisto sp steel blue /neon head. Have kept them in several community tanks with laetacara/angels/discus/gbr / tetras with no problems.
Make sure they are not getting harassed by the males. Separate if so to condition them up to size. For food, try mossie larvae..not many fish say no to them.
Mike, what do you treat them with? Seen quite a number of wild apistos sold that have similar blotches but you seem to imply that it's only in Peruvian fish? Does treatment remove the blotches?
