I'm planning to sell this book on Amazon but wanted to see if anyone here on the forums would like to buy it first. I'd rather sell it to the people here than a stranger on Amazon. It looks like it's worth about $130 when sold used online but I'd sell it here for $85 shipped via Paypal. I'm...
Gertbl,
I really like the look of your tank, especially the way it's mostly shaded from direct light.
If you haven't already, can you share what plants you use? I like the "lily" plants which are going toward the surface? Are those Nymphaea?
Looking great!
SD here too.
Good showing from SD on Apistogramma.com. :)
I'm a daily reader of the forum and I post occasionally. (mostly with dumb questions. :) )
I feel the same as you about dwarf cichlids. When I first saw them as Aquatic Warehouse (great local SD shop), I was hooked instantly and...
Great information Ted! That's exactly what I was curious about. I wish I had known about oddballfish a couple years ago when I tried rams twice and was heartbroken when they all died. I'm guessing the rams did not like the "liquid rock" tap water around here and my 50/50 tap/rodi blend...
I should clarify before I get pelted to death with stones. :) I was there to pick up some anti-fungus medication for some Cardinal Tetra I isolated because of white sores. :)
I'm not advocating purchasing livestock from any large chain just more curious if anyone knew why such a large chain...
I stopped by Petsmart (US big chain pet store) yesterday and the fish guy told me "we have Blue Rams now." He had a male and two females he had just put on display a couple of hours before. He told me that Petsmart had stopped carrying Blue Rams like 6 years ago because there was too much...
Tom,
I gotta say, this is one of my favorite tanks of all time. Reminds me so perfectly of South American underwater fish videos from Aquanet.tv or Freshwater Natural Aquariums.
Can you post more details about your setup? Lighting, filtration, etc.
I think I see Frogbit and Pennywort and...
Thanks Mike and Darrel. That helps a lot to know that splitting the dGH and dKH isn't as critical as I once thought. Maybe it's coming from the plant tank world and CO2 injection where dKH is desirable for stable CO2 levels.
I did buy a TDS/EC meter and found that my 55G, which was the one I...
Update: It's definitely gotta be the substrate. I checked the water sample again and it's way higher than the sand sample.
Do you guys strongly prefer a TDS meter over solution based testing? It seems like you can't split dKH vs dGH with the TDS meters I was looking at but maybe the total is...
Update: I just tested all 3 water glasses and it looks for sure like the substrate/soil from the 55 has moved from 0ppm dGH to 25dGH while the other two have stayed at 0. The dKh hasn't moved noticably but the non 55 gallon test strips stayed at 0dKH while the 55 gallon sample got like 40/80...
