    Have I infected my tank

Google Lymphocystis. Do the spots look anything like those small white pimples?

    New to Apisto Breeding

I would not sweat it either way if it was me. Cacatuoides are great, they are not normally shy and breed readily. One of my favorites. I keep the wild type.

    New to Apisto Breeding

If your OK with losing fry your options widen significantly. I often have fry make it to adulthood if the tank has lots of cover. killifish, endlers, small tetras and danios, etc. I think in a 40 breeder you have enough room to keep something else. but if your dead set on raising all of the...

    Apistogramma Macmasteri Harem Stocking

Thats a good thing. I need to quit myself, giant time sink for very little gain. Instagram is OK for searching things like #blackwateraquarium and seeing the cool stuff people have done. I may start day 1 of youtube detox today lol.

    Apistogramma Macmasteri Harem Stocking

I think he is referring to the aquascape stuff. Its kind of a trend now to do black water tanks with emergent plants growing on driftwood at the top. Some call it a pond style tank… funny. Apistogramma folks have been throwing leaves and stuff in tanks for a long time. But the trend has caught...

    Apistogramma Macmasteri Harem Stocking

I have played around with all sorts. They are easier to manage than a high tech tank. Originally my tank was high tech, but once I learned the process, I lost interest. Trimming stems and cleaning algae became tiresome. I like the style with emergent growth above water. Like you said you get...

    Apistogramma Macmasteri Harem Stocking

If you have not already, look up "black water" tanks. You can probably find an aquascape you like that would also provide extra territory. Leaf litter goes a long way, it creates a maze that bullied fish can use to get away. I have been through several of these style tanks in my 100p. Will...

Can apisto species in the same group cross breed ?

Go for it. As long as you can move the fish before they get stressed no harm in trying. my money is on the Nijsseni double teaming the other fish and keeping them in hiding. Especially if they are a pair.

Can apisto species in the same group cross breed ?

I have mixed species in the past. I have never found they complimented each other. If I had room for two species, the tank was more enjoyable if I just upped the number of females of a single species. I was mixing in a 6’ tank. I wont mix species anymore. Unless its a grow out situation, but...

Aarhud’s 125 gallon Apistogramma Tank (Not a Biotope)

Do you have any pictures of your setup? I love rimless tanks. Once you get used to that look its hard to go back to rims lol. I will certainly post pictures. I just did a huge trim so things look rough lol. But the cool thing about injected CO2 is in two weeks things fill back in!

Aarhud’s 125 gallon Apistogramma Tank (Not a Biotope)

I ended up taking the tank a different route. I have pressurized CO2 with medium lighting and lots of stem plants. Tank inhabitants are Wild A. cacatuoides again. I brought in another group and this time around they look great! I also have some killifish in there. Ripariums are awesome. What I...

    Easy Summer Brine Shrimp

I keep a few frozen mallards in the freezer for dog training. I consider myself lucky that my wife puts up with that, so I'll keep fish critters out of the fridge haha!

    Easy Summer Brine Shrimp

Temps have been everywhere from 80-95+. I feed mosquito larva too. But with the high heat, I am overly cautious about not letting them develop and so I end up dumping a lot of them on the ground.

    Easy Summer Brine Shrimp

I picked up a tip a while back that I finally tried this summer. A fellow hobbyist told me that he discards his brine shrimp hatch water into a glass container outside. The shrimp grow out and you get various sizes. I filled a 12" cube tank with roughly 3-4 gallons of salt water and then added...
