Hi all,

about 3 months ago i bought a trio of apisto. viejita gold ( i know that they are macmasteri, and not viejita), and i'm trying to breed them. I'm feeding them twice a day with frozen food, doing 20% water changes every 3 days, and my water parameters are: pH: 6,2; GH3; temperature: 27ºC. Are his values correct for they breed? Becouse they show no sings of wanting to breed. Can anyone give me some tips plz?

Hi all,
with frozen food
Depends a little bit what the frozen food is, but I'd definitely try some live food as well. Things like Frozen Brine shrimp and Daphnia don't have much goodness left, and some others like Frozen Blood-worms are potentially fatal.

If you just try one culture Grindal worms are good for conditioning and cost pennies to keep. BBS are a bit more expensive and time consuming but even better, and I've found Red Worms (Lumbricus rubellus) are very good as well.

I also "ranch" Daphnia, Mosquito larvae and Blood-worms outside, although production drops off in the winter. Have a look here: <http://www.apistogramma.com/forum/index.php?threads/daphnia.12707/> <http://www.apistogramma.com/forum/index.php?threads/fish-not-eating.12665/#post-69425>.

cheers Darrel

We're discussing the use of tubifex and bloodworms in another thread and I suddenly remembered this comment. Why do you consider Frozen blood-worms dangerous?

Although I've never had this experience * knock on wood * , I've been told a lot of frozen food , ie. blood worms can give your tank a really bad case of ich , even " super ich " which is the uncurable one. I guess I just take my chances.
